Mr. Dines

Mr. Dines was recently awarded a $4,000 competitive grant from the Toshiba America Foundation.  The grant's purpose is to support STEM in classrooms that correlate with their values of

DO THE RIGHT THING.
LOOK FOR A BETTER WAY.
ALWAYS CONSIDER THE IMPACT.
CREATE TOGETHER.

The grant will be used to expand Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Biomedical courses into the middle school.  With the new state requirements of selecting graduation pathways in high school, Dines saw a need for a class that introduces students to the applications of science courses in medical career fields such as nursing, medical doctor, forensics, and epidemiology.

The interactive Biomed Career Exploration course is built around a crime scene.  Students learn about hair samples, fingerprinting, analyzing patent profiles, and other medical related topics through solving the mystery of what happened.

Mr. Dines enjoys teaching PLTW courses because it really engages students through hands-on learning.  Students also move from self-exploration and learning about the topic to applying their knowledge in a simulated situation.  Students are also building teamwork and communication skills along the way.

Congratulations to Mr. Dines.
